Research interests:
Fluorescent sensor arrays for rapid diagnostics of bacterial pathogens
We develop new environmentally-sensitive fluorescent dyes as well as sensing and data analysis techniques to create an accessible sensor for fast and reliable bacterial pathogen diagnostics for low-resource environments and field applications. Using multidimensional techniques such as excitation-emission fluorescence aided by machine learning, we develop sensors capable of detecting a wide range of pathogens in samples that includes complex environments.
Dynamics of soft nanomaterials, drug nanoformulation
We explore the self-assembly dynamics of amphiphilic polymers and cargo-carrier interactions inside the polymeric nanomaterials to improved drug delivery and design better formulations for combination therapy.
Organic fluorescent dyes with unique photophysics
We design and synthesize organic fluorescent dyes and other organic molecules that exhibit unique photophysical properties: excited-state proton transfer, abnormally high fluorescence Stokes shifts, sensitivity to their microenvironment, as well as high two-photon cross-sections and potential excited-state symmetry breaking.
